MoviePlus (Drafting and Planning/Research Into Potential Audience)

I decided to use a digital camera in the filming process of my trailer. I liked the
handheld effect it created and was similar to that of paranormal activity a film that
influenced my trailer hugely. I also felt that using the digital camera provided better
quality and I could do all kinds of different shots with it at different angles. I had never
used a digital camera before but found it easy to work and get to grips with and I also
enjoyed some of the features such as zoom for the close up shots and zooming out
for the long shots. I originally used Moviemaker to edit my clips and put them all
together, however although I felt confident using this software I felt very limited in
terms of editing and adding sound effects etc. I then decided to use a programme called
Movieplus, this had loads of different editing features and tools I could play around
with. Although I was not as confident using this software as I was using Moviemaker, by
the end of my trailer I was able to do all kinds of Editing such as increase the
brightness, change the colour and add texts and credits. It was through my audience
feedback that I decided to change software and it was the right choice as my trailer
would have been nowhere near as effective and look as good if I did
not listen to them and carried on using Moviemaker.

Audience Feedback on Trailer so far... (Research Into Potential Target Audience)

So whilst getting feedback from peers they told me a list of things I needed to do in order to improve my trailer...

The following:

  • Turn the trailer the right way around
  • Stretch the trailer out and get rid of black outline
  • Add Credits
  • Add a production company e.g. universal, 20th Century Fox etc.
  • Add Sounds
  • 'Coming Soon'
  • Use a different software
  • Use Movieplus 6
I made a note of all the feedback suggested by my peers and I decided to change the programmer I  am using from Movie Maker to Movieplus 6.

Mock up of my first trailer (Drafting/Planning)

Here is my first trailer, edited with movie maker. I have used most of the clips in order to create a narrative. I am aware it is not completely finished, but I am going to get some feedback from both my teacher and peers and look at ways to improve my trailer and add trailer conventions, such as credits, movie production company etc.

Free Sound (Drafting and Planning)

Using the website freesound.com I have started looking at different sound effects that I am going to use in my trailer, such as footsteps for example that will be appearing in the attic whilst the woman in below in her bed. I am also going to look at maybe screams or a little girl singing to add to the horror genre.
